Tony McIntosh, Shawsheen Tech’s new superintendent, completes his first month on the job

Shawsheen’s new superintendent of schools, Tony McIntosh, has completed his first month. He is making big changes.

McIntosh graduated from Franklin County Technical School, Turners Falls. He spent more than a decade as a teacher of Metal Fabrication & Welding. He was also the Construction Academy Supervisor at Greater Lawrence Technical School, Andover, and Director of Career and Technical Education, Keefe Regional Technical School, Framingham. McIntosh is an advocate and product of career and technical education.

Tony officially moved in to his office on Friday, July 1, and welcomed staff. Although the corridors were small, his list of tasks was extensive. He worked with Jenna Lesko, the new Business Manager, to finalize the FY23 Operating budget and He attended the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents’ conference and participated in a one-day retreat to help Shawsheen’s school board and He also started cabinet meetings with his administrative staff, worked to resolve school schedule problems, and met with key school officials. He approved the request for a full-time teacher in special education, which was crucial to meet the needs of the new freshmen class.

McIntosh has taken on the challenges and triumphs of the area quickly, and maintained a steady and calm presence in the building. Although most of the staff won’t see him until August’s opening, there is an energy shift in the building.

McIntosh was praised for his dedication and vast knowledge of vocational education by school committee members who voted 8-2 for him on April 28. Nancy Asbedian, representative for Bedford, stated that McIntosh is “the perfect role model for what vocational student can achieve, and it’s a great thing to have him. “

McIntosh’s appointment comes after two years of a failed search for a superintendent.

This led Shawsheen’s school board to hire Dr. Bradford Jackson, a seasoned superintendent, for a two-year term. Shawsheen has been home to three superintendents over the past five years and is now ready for stability.

Teachers, administrators and students are all embracing their new leader. Tony McIntosh’s appointment has brought relief to the community. There is also excitement about his experience and commitment.
